Most of the sites I’ve come across relate only to Twitter so I’ve been using Google Alerts, Custom Scoop & website analytics to monitor where  we’re mentioned and how people find our website.

Here are a few sites I like:
Trendistic – Twitter tool that allows you to search and track specific keywords, and see trends for them

Tweetbeeps – Keep track of conversations that mention your company, brand, topic.

Bit.ly – You can track who has opened your shortened link versus total clicks for all bit.ly links pointing to the original long URL

KnowEm.com alerts – Weekly e-report of where your user name appears across more than 200 social media sites. This comes with their service to create profiles on SM sites.

Any thoughts on the following brand monitoring sites if we should need to invest in a more comprehensive tool? Radian6, Scout Labs, Wool Labs/WebDig, Brandwatch

  1. Which ‘tool’ you’re going to use really depends on your needs and budget. If you’re just looking for client prospecting or have a small brand with mentions, some of the less sophisticated tools may be fine.

If you’re dealing with 1000′s of mentions however, you want to look for a solution more than just a ‘tool’

Definitely take a look at ListenLogic (http://www.listenlogic.com) as a social media monitoring solution.

  2. We have been using a few of these different social media monitoring tools for quite awhile. While they are lightyears ahead in terms of functionality and ease of use versus the free solutions, we are still unimpressed. Most of these solutions will not cover the needs of 80% or more of our clients. The linguistic engines and filters are still too rudimentary, collaberation tools still not feature-rich, and the ability to engage back in the dialog is still unfinished.

We may have more ‘industrial strength’ requirements for our clients but this is a category that still needs more players and better solutions.

We have been taking the ‘raw’ data in and building our own filters and dashboard interfaces as the best solution for now.
