The 200 Club of Mercer County thanks the community for their support of its Annual Luncheon fundraiser on June 9.  The 200 Club of Mercer County is dedicated to providing financial assistance to the families of our public safety and rescue personnel who are killed in the line of duty. The 200 Club honored State Trooper Steven Foster with the Valor Award for his heroism in saving a man’s life from a burning car.  The Valor Award is the highest award bestowed by a 200 Club.  Along with commending Trooper Foster, Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno also praised the outstanding work 200 Clubs perform around the country to quietly provide support to the families of those who have given their lives in the line of duty.

MERCER COUNTY, N.J. — The Mercer County Sports and Entertainment Commission is pleased to announce the Mercer Madness Dodgeball Festival is returning for its third year on Saturday, April 17 inside the skating rink at Mercer County Park! The popular event will once again be sanctioned by the National Dodgeball League and teams are encouraged to sign up now.  The event is open to anyone who wishes to form a team for one of three divisions: Open, Adult Co-ed and High School. Prizes will be awarded to the winner in each division.

“This unique event promises to be one of the most popular draws of the year,” said County Executive Brian Hughes. “I encourage everyone to get together with some friends and family, form a team and have some fun.”

Professional dodgeball player Brett Batky of the New York Epic will be on hand as tournament director.  Batky competed at the college level at The University of Mary Washington and The College of William and Mary, both renowned for producing high quality dodgeball players. As a competitor, he continues to refine a cadre of trick throws such as the “Double Dragon” and the “Look-Away.”

“I’m excited” said Batky, “and looking forward to joining the Mercer Madness dodgeball experience.”

Patrick Ryan, Chairman of the Hopewell Valley Community Bank, a primary sponsor of the dodgeball event, said “This is a marvelous opportunity for local businesses to get their employees out of the stores, offices or shops to enjoy some exercise and have some fun.”

The New Planetarium Goes High Definition!

Soar through the skies in the Museum’s spacious Planetarium, featuring precision projection of more than 6000 stars. The largest planetarium facility in New Jersey, it can comfortably seat 150 visitors in specially designed reclining seats that can transport an audience to any astronomical destination. Now featuring Full Dome Video, the Planetarium’s visitors will feel the sensation of zooming through the Solar System and beyond. This cutting-edge digital technology immerses audiences within images covering the entire 360 degree inner dome. The Planetarium offers something for everyone; with both traditional sky and laser programs, it is the only planetarium of its kind in New Jersey. Made possible by the generous support of the Prudential Foundation.

Planetarium Shows on Saturdays & Sundays

Adults: $5; Child (age 12 and under): $4; Groups of 15 or more: $4 per person

One World, One Sky – 1:00 PM & 3:00 PM (40 minutes); Ages: 3-6 with adult

Big Bird’s adventure begins on Sesame Street when Elmo’s friend, Hu Hu Zhu, visits from China. Big Bird, Elmo and Hu Hu Zhu take viewers on an exciting discovery of the sun, moon and stars. They also learn about the Big Dipper (Ursa Major) and the North Star (Polaris). Elmo and Hu Hu Zhu then take an imaginary trip to the Moon where they learn that the Moon is a very different place from the Earth. When they imagine themselves back on Earth, they celebrate the idea that even though they live in two different countries, they still share the same sky. They even pick the North Star as their friendship star to always remind them of their shared joy of looking up at the sky together. Made possible by the Sesame Street Workshop and the National Science Foundation.

Extreme Planets – 2:00 PM & 4:00 PM (40 minutes); Ages: General Audience;

For centuries, humans have wondered whether we are alone in the Universe. Now, we are one step closer to knowing the answer. With the discovery of the first planet orbiting another star, we now know that planets are not unique to our Solar System. In fact, these “extra solar” planets now appear to be quite common. The Planetarium’s inaugural presentation explores what makes a planet “Earth-like” and takes an immersive full dome tour of several worlds that just might fit the conditions we’re looking for. From water worlds to molten landscapes, inhabitable moons to planets with multiple suns, these exotic worlds are not just science fiction anymore!
